OPPO this week launched its new Selfie-Centric Smartphone in India, the OPPO F7. We’ve got one unit in our hands & let’s take a look at what this latest addition to OPPO’s family of smartphones comes with.

  • It is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P60  processor Mali-G72 MP3 GPU

  • 3400mAh Non-removable battery

Looking at the phone over the first & foremost you notice the gorgeous back, it’s all glass & it is really beautiful. The sides are nicely curved and tapered. On the front it has a 6.23-inch Full HD+19:9 aspect ratio display with a notch and 88% screen-to-body ratio, which it calls Super Full Screen.  On the back, we have a 16MP rear camera with LED Flash alongside fingerprint sensor with the OPPO Branding Below & Antenna bands on the top and bottom. On the top, it has the noise cancellation microphone, on the Left it has the Power button & the Volume rockers, on the right, it holds the SIM Tray. On the bottom, we have a Micro USB Port along with the headphone jack and a speaker grill. The Glance back is gorgeous but is unfortunately bound to attract some fingerprint magnets but that’s completely acceptable.

The OPPO F7 is powered by the new MediaTek Helio P60 processor based on the 12nm Manufacturing process. On paper, the MediaTek Helio P60 process is powerful than the Snapdragon 626 processor. It comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB Storage & it has a special edition which comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB Internal storage. If we talk about AnTutu benchmark score it’s quite great compared to a lot of other smartphones compared in its similar price range & the Helio P60 is a new chip but its multi-core performance is higher than other smartphones. So as its a newer processor consumers have to give some time in order to prove its performance & to see how well does it perform. We ran few games on the OPPO F7 during the event, the game was running smoothly on this device. So I have to say that in terms of performance I didn’t find any issue. If we talk about few other things that this smartphone does have then I have to point out that Pinch to Zoom is properly implemented on the smartphone, it works nicely on Videos, Games & also while watching Youtube Videos. Also, all of the gestures like iOS, something that was seen on recently launched Vivo V9 is present here, you can also use the default android style buttons but the gestures work fine for the time being.

Talking about the Software, the OPPO F7 comes with Color OS 5.0 based on Android 8.1 (Oreo), I personally feet that they won’t be updating it to any other Android Version anytime soon which is an issue with OPPO Smartphones. If I talk about few other features it has an AI Board which is very useful & recognizes your usage patterns & also specific Indian theme for users, there’s also one great feature that while you are watching videos fully on the screen you can multitask via the small shortcut buttons which can allow you to screen record or take a screenshot & another option which allows you to set it to DND Mode  & has Some other Great features to enhance the User Experience of the Smartphone.

Lets talk about the main thing which is the Camera for OPPO Devices, OPPO has put in a lot of time & effort towards making selfies better on this smartphone, it has a 25MP Selfie Camera is amongst the first to have a HDR Sensor for the Selfie Camera which is a Sony MX576 sensor which enables preview Bokeh in real time while clicking selfies & you can also see that the Images taken with Selfie camera are really great. OPPO claims that it would be clear in backlight condition, it has 296 Facial feature spots which improve beautification around your eyes & when I put it to test it was definitely working. They have different beautification algorithms for different people in a similar frame & to take things really far they have also introduced a new slim face mode wherein you can slim your face depending on your preferences, it also has a Vivid Mode wherein it would enable face protection and not make your face vivid but the background vivid which looks really great and they also have AR Stickers & there are also different AI presets for different scenarios.

There’s a 16MP Rear Camera with Sony IMX398 Sensor with a f/1.8 aperture which has the same setup that was seen last year on the OPPO F5, the F5 was not a bad camera at all because at this price range you cant find a phone with better aperture which is f/1.8 but then as it has a Single-Camera you don’t find most of the features such as the Portrait Mode & Depth Sensing.

In terms of powering this smartphone, there’s a 3400mAh battery which is a bit higher than the Vivo V9. I expect the OPPO F7 to have a better battery management & optimization with the processor. It also comes with a lot of AI Features which would help in battery management. Overall I feel that the 3400mAh battery should last anybody for an entire day regardless of how heavily an individual uses this smartphone.

The OPPO F7 is priced at Rs. 21,990 for the 4GB RAM Variant with 64GB Internal Storage & Rs. 26,990 for the 6GB RAM Variant with 128GB Internal Storage. It comes in Solar Red, Moonlight Silver colors and will be available through all online retailers such as Flipkart as well as offline stores starting April 9th. Also, OPPO will hold a flash sale on 2nd April 2018 for 24 hours on Flipkart and OPPO stores across the country where 10,000 phones will be available for purchase & additional 120GB 4G data from Jio and one-time free screen replacement within one year will be provided from OPPO’s authorized service centers.

Overall, I feel that the most crucial element of this smartphone & its pricing strategy is the fact that it is designed for Offline markets. However, you could look at other smartphones such as the Redmi Note 5 Pro which to some people might seem like a better opportunity but the problem is that you have to go through flash sales in order to purchase it.
