Idea Cellular to Launch a Rs. 2500 Phone to take on Reliance Jio 4G feature phone
Idea Cellular, India’s third Largest Telecom Operator is reported to launch a New 4G Enabled Feature phone worth Rs. 2500 to take on Reliance Jio 4G Feature Phone. There were Reports that Airtel will also soon launch their New Feature Phone in competition with the Reliance Jio Feature Phone.
According to a Report in PTI, Himanshu Kapania, the managing director of Idea Cellular Limited, has raised net neutrality concerns about Jio Phone. He said that the Jio Phone will not support most of the apps which a customer would prefer to install. According to him, the choice of apps will not work since it is forcing consumers to use an individual operator’s apps.
On the Above discussion he said that the company, which is being merged with larger rival Vodafone, is working with handset makers to launch a phone that will be slightly expensive, but offer customers the freedom of choice. “This new handset will give all the choices to a customer, including to choose the operator of his/her choice, popular applications like Google, Facebook or Whatsapp”
Airtel is reportedly said to be working on their new 4G feature phone but Airtel will not ‘subsidise’ the cost of the handset, instead, it will bundle it different plans. “We have no intention to get into subsidizing devices and running the inventory as if we own them. There is a difference between subsidizing and bundling. We have done that on the smartphone side for many years. We will continue to look at bundling,” Gopal Vittal, Chief Executive and Managing Director, Airtel
The Idea 4G Feature Phone is expected to be priced at Rs. 2500 which is slightly expensive than the Jio Rs. 1500 Feature Phone but HimanshuKapania made it clear that Idea will not subsidise the phone infact the phone will allow customers the choice of dual SIM, selection of 2G and 4G networks, signing up with telecom operators of choice and to use applications of choice.
